I had to sign a permission slip in order for Shayla to see the address President Obama gave to the schools. I can only assume this is because so many parents complained about having their kids subjected to listening to him for all of 10 minutes. I would say I'm a fairly partisan person, but come on people. What are you afraid of? That your kids are going to come home flaming liberals? Ignorant. I think it was nice that he thought of kids... probably because he has young ones still. Ok, so maybe it was his advisers that thought of it. Maybe it was purely tactical. Who really cares and what on earth is the big deal?

I hope if they decide to show it in our school I get the chance to sign a permission slip....my kids will be sick that day.
***I know the speech he gave was harmless (since nobody would let him give the original speech he planned).
Okay, in all reality I'd sign the permission slip. I just don't trust the man and I refuse to give him respect simply because of his title.
We need to have a serious phone conversation. Suffice it to say that I have great respect for the office. We have an incredible process for selecting the president. It isn't a popularity contest.
Except in this case it WAS a popularity contest...
Okay, I'm done ;)
Oh, please. NO president ever would give a speech to the children filled with politics. He gave a general speech filled with encouragement to do good, just as anyone would have. If Teddy Roosevelt, JFK, or Washington were giving the speech NO ONE would have batted an eye. But because our current population is what it is, we have to think that Obama is going to say something horrible to our students. Really? really?
I agree with Becca.
ha ha, we live in the great state of california and the girls didn't even watch it at school...weird.
I will just say this. I intend to teach my kids why I'm a conservative/republican and what that entails. I don't want to dwell on why I'm not a liberal/democrat. The easy way out of actually understanding what you supposedly agree with is to complain about the other side.
i want to hear more people get feisty! haha!
do people think the president is going to start telling kids they should get abortions and gay marriages in his speech? i did see on drudge that democrats were suspicious of president bush sr. when we spoke to students as well. very interesting. ps- this is jocelyn. it wouldn't let me log into my account for some reason!
AGREED!
Update: Shayla informed me that only one little person in her class didn't get to go watch it. I wonder how many didn't go in the whole school. Hopefully 3 and they were all from the same family.
